Faculty is an equal opportunity employer committed to fostering a diverse and equitable environment and encourages female candidates to apply.
A fully funded PhD position is available in the field of Cellular Wireless Positioning at the Faculty of Computer and Information Science of University of Ljubljana. The goal of the project is to research novel positioning algorithms leveraging radio signals from the mobile cellular network, with special focus on 4G/LTE signals. The research will involve a mixture of theoretical and experimental activities, with extensive use of real measurement data and field testing.
The PhD project is sponsored by the R&D branch of u-blox, a market leader in the production of wireless and positioning i.c.s and modules (www.ublox.com).
Requirements
The ideal candidate has completed a Master degree study in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics or related field. He/She is curious, proactive and enjoys engaging in puzzling technical/scientific challenges that involve both theoretical reasoning and system-level thinking. A background in basic statistics and/or data analysis would be a plus.
The candidate has to enroll into PhD Study Programme at the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Computer and Information Science in year 2016/2017 (deadline for submission of applications is 3rd June 2016). It is expected to complete his/her doctoral study within three years (possible extensions are possible subject to mutual agreement).
We offer
A three-years employment contract as RESEARCHER plus full coverage of the PhD enrollment fees.
Research work under the supervision of Prof. Fabio Ricciato.
Involvement in regular coordination and joint activities with the u-blox R&D team and other cooperating universities from outside Slovenia.
Job description
The successful candidate will develop novel robust algorithms for indoor/outdoor positioning based on LTE/UMTS radio signals and will seek to publish the results of his/her research in top-level conferences and journal. As a PhD student, he/she will follow the mandatory courses from the Doctoral program in Computer and Information Science. The position does NOT require engagement in teaching nor any other additional duties besides research (e.g., proposal writing).
